Nashville Children’s Theatre showcases some serious talent at Dragon Concert

A roaring good time

The Nashville Children’s Theatre was a very busy place on Mother’s Day. At two o’clock, hundreds flocked there for a new production of the family favorite Charlotte’s Web. At six o’clock, NCT board members and patrons arrived for a VIP reception complete with silent and live auctions. By eight that evening, the stage had been reconfigured and readied for the 13th Annual Dragon Concert. Fancy footwork, especially considering the restrooms were disabled by the flooding Cumberland River and had to be replaced with a phalanx of port-a-potties.

Patron party guests nibbled on hors d’oeuvres from B & C (which stands for “Bacon and Caviar” in case you’re wondering) and then enjoyed good ol’ barbecue from Charcoal Cowboys in Franklin. While they mixed and mingled, they checked out the auction items such as a 12-month dining package at some of Nashville’s finest restaurants, an assortment of admission tickets, one-year memberships to various attractions around town, a weekend at a cabin in Sewanee and pearl earrings. A favorite among the ladies—Girl’s Day Out Package including passes to NashTrash Tours, lunch at Cheesecake Factory and tickets to Zanie’s Comedy Club.

The evening’s musical line-up featured Jamie O’Neal, Minnie Murphy, Lari White, Viktor Krauss and Angel Snow delivering their notable musical contributions to benefit NCT. Such talent in one room makes you proud to be a Nashvillian. Local music legends Doyle and Debbie (if you haven't caught them at the Station Inn, you must check them out—they’re absolutely hysterical) hosted and performed. The Dragon Concert benefits NCT’s School Performance Series and helps provide free and reduced-price tickets for students who need financial support to attend the theater.

Frankly, we think that’s just what children need—more theatre and less technology. We’re grateful. SN
